Before digital cameras came along, you had to set your "F stop" to the proper setting to have the right exposure for your photos. There was a saying among photojournalists: "F8 and be there."--set your camera to F8, and get to the scene ready to go. Not that much has changed, really.

Welcome to the Observer's Photo Blog

Truth be told, I wanted to be a photojournalist when I grew up.

Quotes

"If your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough."

"The pictures are there, and you just take them."

Washing Up

Here's my GirlCat, washing up, probably after the evening mushy noms.

Hi There...

Flags Flying at Kemper Arena

Kemper Arena has been largely supplanted by Sprint Center. It is still an interesting looking structure, and for basketball, there's not a bad seat in the house.

Bush Blooming

Dark leaves, white flowers, blue sky....

This tree is one of my favorites--so pretty with small white blooms against the dark leaves. I'm terrible about this--I have no idea what it is called. If you think you know, save me a Google, and leave your thoughts in the comment section.

Forsythia

The forsythia in the metro got together with a meeting Monday morning and decided it was time to bloom. Consequently, there are bushy cascades of yellow all over town. These happen to be mine.

It wasn't long ago that there was snow in these branches! Link here at South Kansas City Observer.

Purple Flowers

Purple flowers, about 3 inches high. They are cute and pretty and I have no idea what they are--and I planted them! Help!
